Demi Lovato Wrote an Anti-Trump Anthem Ahead of the Election
"If I did the things you do, I couldn't sleep."
In just 20 days, Americans will take part in perhaps the most crucial election of their lifetimes. And Demi Lovato just dropped a new track to drive home the importance of voting President Trump out of office. Her new single is called “Commander in Chief,” and chronicles all the wrongdoings that have been committed by this current administration and how it’s now up to the American voters to make things right again and better than before.
If I did the things you do, I couldn’t sleep, Lovato sings in Commander in Chief. Seriously, do you even know the truth?/ We’re in a state of crisis, people are dying/ While you line your pockets deep/ Commander in Chief/ How does it feel to still be able to breathe?
In the description of the YouTube release, Lovato writes, “Please join me and vote in this year’s election” and links to IWillVote.com.
Over on Instagram, Lovato dropped a few teaser videos for the upcoming video for “Commander in Chief,” which is set to drop tomorrow, October 15th. Her story will seemingly be told by those who are most affected by the current leadership.
Lovato captioned her first teaser post with a lyric from the song: Were you ever taught when you were young… If you mess with things selfishly, they’re bound to come undone?
Fans and supporters have come out in droves to thank Lovato for using her platform to be blatantly political. Though celebrities are often looked down upon for talking about politics, with so much at stake in this election, it is irresponsible to not speak up for what’s right.
It’s up to us to vote for the right side of history, and we, and many others, will absolutely be marching to the polls (or post office to take part in mail-in voting) with Lovato’s “Commander in Chief” ringing in our ears.
