Debbie Reynolds’ cause of death has been confirmed, and we hope this brings her family even just a little closure
The world is still not over the loss of mother-daughter icons Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. Their strength of presence was legendary, and they each contributed so very many beloved films and works of art to our lives. And now, Debbie Reynolds cause of death has officially been confirmed — which hopefully brings just a little bit of closure to her family during this difficult time.
According to her death certificate, the actress died of an intracerebral hemorrhage — or what is more commonly known as a stroke.
This news isn’t too surprising. Reynolds suffered several strokes in 2015, and many news outlets were reporting that she had gone into the hospital with stroke-like symptoms before she died. Her family even described the incident as a “massive stroke.” Now, the world simply has an official name for what was already strongly suspected.
The cause of death of daughter Carrie Fisher still isn’t quite as clear. According to the medical examiner, the cause is listed as “cardiac arrest/deferred,” which means while she did die of heart problems, the coroner has not yet determined the exact cause.
In an interview with ABC News, Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother and Debbie’s youngest child, spoke about his mom, saying, “She literally spent her life caring after Carrie. I don’t think she hardly knows what to do without having Carrie to look after. I think she wanted to be with her. I’m not joking when I say she left to be with her, and I’m happy about that. That’s the only thing I’m happy about.”
We think this is a beautiful sentiment, and we hope that Carrie and Debbie knew just how much they meant to their family and the world — wherever they are.
