Get excited, there’s going to be a ‘Deadwood’ movie

TV shows are a lot like friendships. Sometimes those friendships last a long time and end only when they have to. Other times, the ending is abrupt and out of nowhere, leaving you asking what you did wrong. Know what we’re talking about? If you’re a Deadwood fan, you probably do. But lucky for us, Deadwood is coming back. This time, on the silver screen.

I’ll take a brief pause to let you soak up the joy derived from that statement. Okay. Ready?

Deadwood, a series chronicling the dynamic city of Deadwood, South Dakota, had an untimely end after three seasons. Supposedly due to financial strains, we didn’t see more than thirty-six episodes. With a killer ensemble cast, including Timothy Olyphant and Anna Gunn, Deadwood‘s return has been long overdue.

In terms of what to expect from the movie? HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told TV Line that the series creator, David Milch, “has something left unsaid,” and that he’ll focus on the movie script once he finishes up a project he’s currently working on.

And here’s the best part: Milch is “confident” he’ll be able to work around scheduling conflicts and make sure the original ensemble cast returns to make the movie amazing.  “The cast is unbelievably [tight],” he stated. “Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them.”

So far, it’s unclear when the movie will hit theaters —but we’ll be binge-watching the show on HBO Go in the meantime.
