The “Deadpool 2” trailer includes a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” joke, and we wouldn’t have it any other way

The Merc with a Mouth is back with a vengeance and a crapload of jokes — including a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants reference. If you thought the Ryan Reynolds vs. Blake Lively trolling saga wouldn’t go beyond the confinements of social media, then you, my friend, are sorely mistaken. In the full-length Deadpool 2 trailer, Reynolds gained the upper hand by throwing shade to his lovely wife who starred in the dramedy back in the day.

For the most part, the Deadpool 2 trailer showed us Wade Wilson’s anti-hero shenanigans and his genius strategy to take down Cable who, by the way, is dead-set on taking down a mutant kid. After realizing he can’t defeat the villain on his own, he forms a clique of “tough, morally flexible” heroes, who are all “young enough to carry their own franchise for 10 to 12 years.” He proudly calls the super group “X-Force,” which of course is a blatant X-Men rip-off. “Isn’t that a little derivative?” Domino (Zazie Beetz) asks. “You’re absolutely right,” Deadpool says. “Now, let’s go get our f**k on!”

But the Deadpool 2 trailer saves the best for last.

Toward the end, Deadpool imparts some wisdom to his cab driver friend, Dopinder (Karan Soni). “Doing the right thing is messy, but if you want to fight for what’s right, sometimes you have to fight dirty,” he quips. “And that is why Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is pure pornography.

To tell you the truth, that is not at all how we understand the film about our favorite girl gang, but we’ll let the joke pass for its sheer hilarity. Now we’re wondering if Blake will fire back and unleash a husband and wife trailer-shading battle. The actress is currently busy filming two films — A Simple Favor and The Rhythm Section, which means we should all be on #shadewatch.

Deadpool 2 shoops into theaters on May 18th.
