The Davos-Melisandre confrontation is coming on “Game of Thrones” and we’re afraid

Game of Thrones fans experienced one of the most heart-pounding episodes of all six seasons during last week’s “Battle of the Bastards.” But if you think the white-knuckle moments are over, think again — the finale has some crazy moments in store, specifically between Davos and Melisandre.

In Episode 9, Davos discovered Shireen’s tiny toy stag by her funeral pyre, and now he wants to know why Melisandre went through with that horrific execution.

“It’s a punch to the chest,” Liam Cunningham told Tech Insider. “Especially after what happened in the first couple of episodes of this season, when he’s almost trying to repair the relationship between the two of them.”

Melisandre and Davos didn’t exactly play nicely before they became allies while following Jon Snow.

“One of the most difficult lines I ever had to say is ‘you were right,’” Liam says about his character’s interactions with the Red Woman. “It’s a very simple sentence but it just felt it’s so out of character for Davos to be saying that to Melisandre. At the same time he wants her help with the whole Jon Snow situation.”

But there’s still deeply-rooted conflict between them, and it seems like it’s finally going to bubble over.

“[Davos and Melisandre] team up at the beginning of [season six] and the audience knows what she’s done to the one person who means so much to him, who meant so much to him,” Liam says. “That’s what’s brilliant about the writing the audience were in possession of that information but he wasn’t. Now he is and we’re going to see at some stage a confrontation of sorts […] so that should be interesting, where that goes.”

From previews of the finale, it seems like Davos is going to force Melisandre come forward about her evil deed. But what will Jon do? She did bring him back to life after all. Guess we’ll have to wait until tonight to find out.
