David’s Bridal’s newest ad features plus-size women, and it’s gorgeous

We love seeing a major player in the wedding game get inclusive and celebrate brides of all sizes, which is why we were so thrilled to see that major wedding dress retailer David’s Bridal feature size 14 model Mercy Watson in their new spring ad campaign.

It’s an unfortunate truism that a time-honored American wedding tradition has been to pressure women to drop extreme amounts of weight as their wedding date draws near. For too long, brides have been told that on the happiest day of their lives they must be the smallest possible version of themselves. We love David’s Bridal for putting forth a new truth with this new campaign: all sizes are beautiful, all brides are beautiful, so let’s stop scrutinizing brides for what they’re not and celebrate everything they are on one of the most special and important days of their lives.

As Trevor Lunn, David’s Bridal’s Chief Creative Officer explained to Buzzfeed, the average David’s customer is a size 14, so it made perfect sense to feature Mercy, a model of the same size, in their new campaign.

This isn’t the first time that David’s Bridal has featured a model that is the same size as their average customer- last year size 14 Candice Huffine was featured in a David’s campaign.

Cheers to David’s for putting together this beautiful and necessary campaign!
