Here are David Schwimmer’s thoughts on the upcoming “Friends” reunion
Could we BE any more excited for the upcoming Friends reunion? OK, it’s not *technically* a Friends reunion, but TBH, it’s all we’ve been able to think about ever since Wednesday, when NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt revealed at the 2016 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour that our fave friends are going to be coming back together for a two-hour special celebrating TV director James Burrows.
“I’m hoping that all six of them will be in the same room at the same time, but I’m not sure if we can logistically pull it off,” Greenblatt explained to the crowd of journalists. “But I think it’s safe that all six will be there.”
Sadly, all six won’t literally be there, as Matthew Perry is busy starring in The End of Longing, a play in London (which we can totally understand, despite our disappointment). But while we’ll be missing Chandler with all our hearts, we’re happy that Ross (David Schwimmer) will be there in all his glory. . . even if he himself doesn’t know what to expect.
Chatting with Us Weekly, Schwimmer explained that he doesn’t know much more about the special than we do. “I have no idea of what’s expected of us — I honestly don’t,” he said. “I’m flying in that day, so I’m just showing up. From what I’ve been told from Sean Hayes [Will & Grace], we’re all going to come up on stage and talk about Jim and give him a hug.”
The special will be honoring Burrows due to the fact that he just filmed his 1,000th TV episode — a MAJOR feat. “I just want to be in the room when he’s honored because this man has contributed so, so greatly to our country’s enjoyment of television over the last 40, 50 years,” Schwimmer said. “It’s lovely that there’s an event that honors him. There are so many people that love him and whose careers were defined by him.”
He, like us, is sad that Perry won’t be there, but excited for his prospects — and hey, at least Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc will be there! “I’m rooting for [Perry] and his new play,” Schwimmer said. “I’m just thrilled that so many people will be there.”
Us too, David. Us too. (Even though Hanukkah has past, FINGERS CROSSED that he shows up as the Holiday Armadillo.)
