David Beckham defends kissing daughter Harper on the lips in Facebook Live chat

Every parent shows affection in their own way. David Beckham recently defended a photo where he is kissing his daughter Harper on the lips. It came up during a Facebook Live chat and the former soccer player and dad of four felt that he had to defend himself. He shared a sweet picture of himself and daughter Harper on Instagram and while most of the comments were positive and supportive, there are always going to be people who take issues with it. “I got actually criticized for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips,”

“I got actually criticized for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips,” Beckham revealed in the chat.

In addition to Harper, who is the littlest (and only daughter) of the Beckham kids, David and wife Victoria have three sons, Cruz (12), Romeo (15) and Brooklyn (18). Now that Brooklyn is older, David admitted that he doesn’t kiss him on the lips, “he might find that a little bit strange,” David joked. That is totally understandable, but if the family chooses to express their love for each other by kissing on the lips, what is the big deal right? Victoria has also shared photos of her kissing their children so clearly it’s a family thing.

“It’s how I was brought up, and it’s how we are with our children,” he says, making it clear that it is something that he isn’t ashamed of and finds perfectly acceptable behavior (which it absolutely is!).

“We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and we’re very affectionate with them.” Isn’t that all any parent wants to show their children? Being affectionate isn’t a bad thing as long as they’re comfortable with it. Kudos to David Beckham for being an A+ dad, and a good example to his children!
