Meet the new dating app that helps you find love the old-fashioned way
You guys. I think we can all agree that online dating is exhausting. Sorting through what seems like endless humans can be torture. And amidst the hundreds, sometimes thousands, of potential dates, if you haven’t found anyone you’re interested in clicking on, it can feel like there aren’t enough options. But once you find someone you’re interested in meeting in person, it becomes this weird game of trying to get that other human’s attention. Once you do, and you both want to meet up, setting up a time to meet is an event in itself. Eventually, your schedules align and you meet. Except the conversation is dull and the person looks nothing like their pictures. So, you go home and log into your app, only to do it all over again.
Well, for those of you who feel overwhelmed and straight up tired of trying to find love on dating apps and sites on your own, there’s a new app that will take on some of that burden for you. Definitely not all of it, but the hardest part — the part where you find a person you have tons in common with (and hopefully find attractive as well).
London-based dating app Once is the first app that has actual humans sorting through profiles on your behalf. Each day, these human matchmakers will handpick the “perfect” date for you. You’ll only receive one match per day — so if you’re someone who enjoys sorting through hundreds of profiles, this app isn’t for you. But if you prefer more of the old school way of dating (as old school as it gets for online dating), you’ll probably be way less overwhelmed by checking out one person at a time.
The dates are chosen based on specific criteria, including interests, physical appearance and personal preferences. Once you receive your date, it will remain visible for 24 hours, and you’ll have the option to accept or decline.
According to Mashable, Jean Meyer, the founder and CEO of Once said, “People are fed up with having to just sit and swipe through hundreds of people in the hope that they might find one person who they like and then start a conversation with. With Once, we’re taking that responsibility on ourselves, and are handpicking great people for London’s time-starved daters. With the right matches lined up you’ll have time to continue with your day as normal and know that you’ll have a handpicked date delivered to your inbox every 24 hours.”
The app launched a few weeks ago, and over 150,000 people have already joined. It’s free to download for iOS and Android, but is currently only available in the UK. Hopefully it will make its way across the pond soon so everyone can find love and live happily ever after.
