Darren Aronofsky gushed about girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence’s acting skills, and we’re totally on the same page
In successful relationships, there are plenty of reasons why we find our partners attractive. So it should come as no surprise that Jennifer Lawrence’s acting talent impressed Darren Aronofsky, who worked with the actress on Mother!, a thriller that’ll be in theaters soon. Lawrence and Aronofsky started up a relationship after the film wrapped.
Aronofsky opened up about his admiration in an interview with Vulture — but first, he discussed the movie in question. Aronofsky is responsible for some of the most chilling films in the past few decades, and while we don’t know too much about Mother! based on the trailers that made the rounds, we can tell it’ll be like nothing else out there.
"I want them to be clear that it’s the guy who made Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan and the threshold is as high, if not higher, than that. It’s definitely different than anything else out there right now. For anyone who has an appetite for that, we’ll try do to our best to serve up a delicious meal," Aronofsky said to the site.

Aronofsky also noted that there were many things Lawrence brought to the movie all by herself.
"There were a lot of things that the script asked that I have never seen her do, so I was trying to figure out how we were going to get there," he said. "And during the rehearsals, she was very, very relaxed. She was present, but never really pushed herself. It wasn’t appropriate for me to push that, even though I wasn’t sure how she was going to do it. And I really didn’t get to know the character until we started shooting, and she showed up."
For an actor, that’s definitely a high compliment. It shows that Lawrence has a ton of range, and can take bits of a role and turn them into something completely wonderful and believable.
In fact, Lawrence got so into the role that she apparently broke a rib during one of the more intense scenes. Ouch. Sometimes art hurts.
Mother! will be in theaters on September 15th. We can’t wait to check it out.
