All five seasons of Daria are coming to Hulu, so go ahead and cancel all your plans now
The most relatable animated teen on the planet is coming back into our lives in a pretty big way — and not just because of the MTV reboot. Thanks to a new deal between Viacom and Hulu, all five seasons of the original Daria animated series are heading to Hulu — and this might just possibly give us a reason to smile. But no promises.
The Beavis and Butt-Head spinoff, which ran from 1997-2002, was previously available to stream on Amazon Prime, made the jump to Hulu alongside a number of other Viacom-owned series in an exclusive deal. The other series heading exclusively to Hulu are Comedy Central’s Nathan For You, BET series The New Edition Story, and MTV’s My Super Sweet 16. Additionally, a number of Nickelodeon series, including Big Time Rush and School of Rock, will also begin streaming on the platform. Now, we can re-watch every OG Daria episode on Hulu before MTV launches its new iteration of the series.
As our Beloved Daria Morgendorffer would say with a sarcastic sigh, “I’m overcome with emotion.”
Viacom’s new deal with Hulu comes just days after its subsidiary MTV announced plans to launch a new production unit MTV Studios, which is set to reboot a number of the network’s biggest ’90s hits, including Aeon Flux, The Real World, Made, and yes, Daria.
The “reimagining” of Daria, tentatively titled Daria & Jodie, follows the iconic sardonic character and her friend Jodie Landon, who also appeared in the original series as an acquaintance to the titular character and her BFF Jane Lane. According to the logline provided to Variety from MTV, the series will see, “these two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race.”
While there’s no word if Jane or any of the other OG characters are returning for this new series, we imagine it’ll be made in the same misanthropic Daria fashion.
MTV has yet to announce a release date for its new iteration of Daria & Jodie, giving us plenty of time to catch up with Daria, Jane, Jodie, and the rest of the gang on Hulu.
