“Daredevil” has officially found its Elektra (and yeah, she’s badass)

If you’re like us, you can’t wait for the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, which premieres on Netflix on March 18. Not only can we not wait to see what Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) is up to this time around, but we also can’t wait to see what he and Elektra are up to. Yes, that Elektra, played by Elodie Yung.

Rumor has it that Murdock will get “close” to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) this next season… that is, until his old college girlfriend, Elektra, shows up. “She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side,” said showrunner Doug Petrie. “Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.” We like the sound of that; who wouldn’t want more drama and intrigue?

“…We think Elektra is kind of a sociopath,” said Yung of her character. “This world is a game for her, like a chess game. What motivates her is what she wants. She’ll use anything … to get to her goal. On the other hand, we wanted to create a character with different layers. I think Elektra is not a bad person. She’s not a good person. She’s a person with different traits.”

A three-dimensional female character who’s also a badass? We’ll take it.

Of course, we don’t just watch Daredevil for the romantic plots—though it is a nice bonus—but for the action, too. As current Daredevil fans know, Murdock fights law in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen by day and fights crime as Daredevil at night… all while being blind. Can’t say that about other superheroes! And if you’re not a Marvel comics connoisseur, you don’t need to be to get the show… or to get hooked on it!

Aside from the addition of Elektra to stir things up, Frank Castle, aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), will fill in as a new foe for Murdock—since Kingpin, that villain we’re sure Matt won’t miss, landed behind bars last season.

“[It’s] a great Christmas morning moment for us,” said Petrie in regards to adding Elektra and Castle.

As a refresher, Daredevil’s the first time Marvel and Netflix joined forces and we think it’s one of the best decisions they’ve ever made (aside from Netflix creating all the other shows they created that we’re hooked on—the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, anyone?—but that’s another story). And the best news is, you still have plenty of time to binge on Season One’s 13 episodes in the meantime, so we’ll leave you to it.
