Danielle Brooks wants plus-size women to feel confident at the gym
It’s no secret that Orange Is The New Black‘s Danielle Brooks is always inspiring us. One particular moment of Danielle Brooks inspiration happened over the summer when she posted an important Instagram about body acceptance at the gym. Turns out, it started a revolution for plus-size women everywhere, so when she stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, he asked her all about it.
While her post was amazingly articulate all on its own, there’s always room for more conversation. “I just did this for myself really,” she told Stephen. “Just to show self-love, or whatever. It was something that I had never done, take off my shirt at a gym. So I did it and I did not realize that I was giving permission to thousands of plus-sized, big women to go to the gym and take their shirts off, because it became a thing!”
And rightfully so! For anyone learning to accept their body, the gym can be a super uncomfortable place, but taking off your shirt is one way of showing that you can love your body and work on your body just like everyone else around you. We’re so grateful that Danielle is spreading this message of love.
