Daniel Radcliffe says he’d “never say never” to reprising his role as Harry Potter

Sound the alarm, or rather, shoot your wands in the air, because Daniel Radcliffe just said something that’s giving Potterheads hope that their days of queuing up to see the actor don his scar and glasses may not be behind them. The 26-year-old spoke to Radio Times and revealed that he’d “never say never” to reprising his role as the boy wizard should The Cursed Child, the spinoff play currently in previews in London, ever become a film.

While not much is known about the play, which officially opens on July 30th, we do know that it picks up 19 years after Harry, Ron, and Hermione have graduated, following Harry’s son Albus’s adventures at Hogwarts.

“It would depend on the script,” Daniel said when asked if he would ever sign on to the film adaptation. “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying ‘No’ for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”

We certainly hope he does. I mean, who could ever say “no” to Hogwarts? Although, his hesitation could stem from the fact that he hasn’t seen the play, and he’s not sure if he will.

“I could be completely wrong in this but I feel like if I went to see it, there’s going to be a lot of Harry Potter fans there and would that then become a thing?” he told E! News. “I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show.”

It’s true that there would probably be a lot of hubbub, but what would make the Harry Potter experience more authentic than being in the presence of the boy wizard himself?

We’re glad Daniel is being thoughtful about his choices, but we have a feeling that if J.K. Rowling invited him back to Hogwarts, he couldn’t help but say yes.
