Daniel Radcliffe admits it: He’s jealous of Eddie Redmayne
With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them quickly approaching, all talk about the Wizarding World has quickly turned from Harry Potter to Newt Scamander. Knowing Harry as we do, he’s more than likely THRILLED about this because he was never one for celebrity anyway. But the actor behind him, Daniel Radcliffe, finds himself a teensy bit jealous of Eddie Redmayne. Mostly because of clothing though, not really because of fame.
In a brand new interview with NME magazine, were DanRad discusses everything from his brand new movie Victor Frankenstein to why he chooses weird roles, the talk of course turned to witchcraft and wizardly — as it does when you’ve got the Boy Who Lives in your presence.
He touched on the fast that it’s odd to watch Harry continue on without him, as the character will in the West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (and like all of us, he’s excited to see it). On top of that, he’s also incredibly envious of the new wizarding crew in town, because they’ve got some sweet threads.
Using a four-letter word that I’m not going to translate into Muggle (no-maj?) terms, Radcliffe admits that Redmayne has a “brilliant” costume, one that Radcliffe never got to see himself. Explaining to the magazine, Radcliffe quips, “Eddie, in your brilliant costume… I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a great coat already.”
Radcliffe is right. He did spend all of his Hogwarts days in jeans and a robe. So yeah, we can see why he’s jealous because the coat in question really is a great coat. But to circle back to that Hogwarts robe, Radcliffe still HAD a Gryffindor robe for eight years while our high schools required no such thing. So we feel your pain, Dan, but not a whole lot. A Hogwarts robe is better than no Hogwarts robe.
Besides, considering you can now buy your very own Hogwarts robe, it only makes sense that Newt’s coat will eventually hits stores near us soon. And then HP can cosplay as the author of one of his old school textbooks.
