These ‘Dancing With the Stars’ dancers just got engaged

Prepare to make squeaky noises of joy, Dancing with the Stars fans! Long-time real-life ship Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are going to be fox-trotting down the aisle together soon!

The beloved ballroom alums have been in a complicated off-and-on relationship for a few years, dating for 10 months in 2012-2013 before taking a break, presumably to see if there was anyone else who could keep up with them on and off the dance floor. Rumors of a romantic reunion started up in May of this year, but things still seemed up in the air for another month. Finally, pics surfaced at E Online of the couple doing some more-than-friendly public snuggling, and the heat was clearly back on.

Still, was it going to keep being an on/off situation? Apparently Chmerkovskiy decided he was done with casual. According to People, the dancer took an opportunity to speak during the third performance of Sway: A Dance Trilogy. As fans screeched with joy in the background, Maksim opened his heart: “I’m in love with you, and I want to be in love with you for the rest of my life,” he said before dropping to one knee.

Shortly afterwards, Maksim made the announcement official to his social media fans on Instagram.

Murgatroyd soon followed with her own confirmation, sharing a photo of a, frankly, swoon-worthy smooch between the two of them:

Congratulations and excitement soon poured in from the couples’ friends and DWTS family. Maksim’s brother Val, DWTS contestant Rumer Willis, and many other dancers from the franchise couldn’t wait to celebrate this happy ending.

No word on when we can expect the wedding bells to ring for the happily engaged couple, but one thing is for sure: their wedding dance will be epic (let’s just not invite Len Amato to judge them.) Check out the video of the beginning of Maksim’s proposal below, and prepare to go “awwwww!”
