“The Walking Dead” star Danai Gurira tells Stephen Colbert how to survive the zombie apocalypse

If there’s one person whose advice I’d follow when it comes to surviving a zombie apocalypse, it’s The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira. The actress and playwright stopped by The Late Show and told Stephen Colbert exactly what she’d do if she found herself surrounded by zombies, as well as why she thinks the world is so obsessed with them.

Stephen asked what she thinks the ultimate zombie-proof shelter is, and Danai explains her thoughts. “It’s an island, right?” she says. “They can’t get to you. You get there, you clear it out. And you chill!”

Of course, Stephen points out that the show isn’t really about a zombie apocalypse. It’s about the human condition, the characters just also happen to be surrounded by zombies. But why, Stephen asks, are we so obsessed with zombies as a plot device? Danai has an idea:

That sounds totally plausible, but if we think too hard about it our brains start to hurt. Better unwind with at least two to two hundred episodes of The Walking Dead on Netflix.
