Dakota Johnson has a unique take on BDSM that definitely helps with “Fifty Shades” scenes

We’re on pins and needles for Fifty Shades Darker, the cinematic sequel to Fifty Shades of…well, you know. And part of what makes us so excited for the upcoming film is the fact that we’ll be getting to see some seriously sexy cinema brought to life again on the big screen.

Unless you’ve been living under a pop culture rock since 2011, you know that the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise follows heroine Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) in the films, and her romance with fabulously rich Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan).

ICYMI, Grey is a businessman with a BDSM fetish. The series is driven by Anastasia and Christian’s romance and how they navigate their way through the BDSM aspect of the relationship.

Recently, Dakota Johnson spoke to Vogue about how she, as an actress, connects with the BDSM aspects of the Fifty Shades series. And her insights are pretty interesting.

She said, "First of all, there are some very chic avenues in BDSM. It can be very beautiful and tasteful, and the materials can be luxurious. It's not like being on Hollywood Boulevard and walking by a ball-gag store."

We love that Johnson dispelling stereotypes about the world of BDSM.

Johnson goes on to voice her admiration for the people who inhabit the world of BDSM:

"But what I admire is the bravery and the honesty of people who get down with it, who aren't afraid to say that they need something a bit more in order to get off," she added. "America is still so sexually oppressed. Isn't God's gift to humans the orgasm?"

Big ups to Johnson for advocating for sexual health and happiness. And props to her for speaking so thoughtfully and respectfully about the world of BDSM that her films portray. Fifty Shades Darker comes out February 10th, 2017.
