Dakota Fanning will play a 19th century New York detective in a new TV show
Actress and 22-year-old starlet Dakota Fanning is starring in 2017’s The Alienist on TNT, and we couldn’t be more excited about her character. Dakota will play a headstrong NYPD secretary named Sara Howard, who helps her colleagues investigate a series of brutal murders. As the first woman hired by the local police station, Sara Howard has a goal of becoming a full-fledged detective.
The new TNT thriller is an adaptation of Caleb Carr’s best-selling novel. Carr’s novel, by the same name, focuses on the Gilded Age — when political corruption and violence ruled New York. The series takes place in 19th century, so we can only imagine that Dakota’s character will be a feminist force, and totally badass.
The Alienist is executively produced by Black Mirror’s Jakob Verbruggen and Cary Fukunaga from True Detective.
Ahhhh, the excitement!
And, don’t worry about getting your hopes up. The network shared the official word at the Television Critics Association’s (TCA) Winter Press Tour, so we know for sure that the show is on its way.
Get ready for more impressive deets! Seasoned actors Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans — from Captain America and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast remake, respectively — are also starring in the upcoming series.
The Alienist is set to hit the small screen in late 2017.
