The reason why Daisy Ridley may have left Instagram will make you really sad

Know those ah-mazing pictures of just about everything from her daily life that Star Wars heroine, Daisy Ridley, used to constantly post to Instagram? Know all those AH-MAZING workout videos that you secretly envied and wondered if you could try out yourself? Know those silly selfies?? They’re no more ?

Sometime late Tuesday/early Wednesday, Ridley deleted her Instagram, and let’s be truthfully honest, we’re really upset about that. In a world full of chaos and calamity, a picture of Ridley with the giraffe filter on her face sure made us feel a lot better.

What’s really the true bummer news about this is that she was driven off the social media platform by a group of trolls. This past weekend, Ridley was in attendance at the Teen Choice Awards where she took home Choice Movie Breakout Star, and we were like YAS GIRL. She later posted about her win, and then followed up with comments about the on-going gun violence here in America.

In a now-deleted Instagram post (that was then shared to Facebook, also deleted), Ridley wrote:

“Thinking about how lucky I am like . . . Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must ‪#‎stoptheviolence.”‬

It was an incredibly touching, thoughtful, and succinct message from one of the biggest movie stars on the planet right now. But no sooner had the message been posted, that the trolls came out and overflowed Ridley’s feed with negative and hateful comments. Though Ridley hasn’t commented about this herself personally, the thought is that it’s these trolls who ultimately drove her off the site.

Since then, so many messages of support and love had flooded her still-active Facebook page. And then there are those who are asking John Boyega (Ridley’s co-star in Star Wars) what’s up:

One thing from all of this is clear, negative comments aside: There’s a HUGE group of people who still love and support Ridley, wherever she is, wherever she’s going to go, and whatever social media platform she’s using. There’s always the chance she could come back to the site at anytime, and we’ll be waiting. But Daisy, you do you. If she want to step away from Instagram forever, or for a little while, or start sharing workout videos to a completely different site, DO IT!
