Daisy Ridley hints at a “Star Wars” ~romance~ for Episode VIII and we have absolutely no chill about it

What was your favorite beautiful budding romance of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Was it the beautiful friendship between Rey and Finn? What about whatever was going on between Finn and Poe (aka, that lip bite)? Or maybe was it Poe and BB-8? Kylo Ren and his three-pronged lightsaber? Princess General Leia and her POWER?

For a movie about wars in space, there was a lot to ‘ship. And according to Daisy Ridley, the fierce lady behind Rey, one of them might actually happen in Episode VIII.

Talking on the “My Dad Wrote a Porno” podcast, Ridley was asked some yes or no questions about events that might happen in Episode VIII, and though she’s only supposed to answer yes or no, her answers are VERY telling. When asked, “Is there a romance [in the movie?]” Ridley response with “maaaaaybeeeeee.?”

She follows up with this: “The thing is, I read this article the other day, and it was talking about being in love with your friends, and how that is the ultimate thing. So I think romance covers a lot of bases.”

Sure, you can be in love with your friends. It’s probably best if you actually love your friends. But that kind of friendly relationship can then lead to so much more. These questions were also geared towards the character of Rey, and earlier in the podcast Ridley admitted that she’s injured in the movie, possibly “emotionally.”

OMG, is there going to be some heartbreak in Star Wars?

During Force Awakens, Finn tries his hardest to impress Rey (you know, because he’s a ~Big Deal~ in the rebellion). In the Force Awakens novel, it’s actually hinted that Rey finds Poe attractive (“She [searched] his face and [found] that she liked it“). Let’s not rule out the (let’s admit, strange) ship of Rey and Kylo Ren, because THAT COULD HAPPEN TOO, YOU KNOW.

Or Rey could continue to be awesome, and independent, and kick-ass on her own without a partner. We’ll find out in 472 days, when Star Wars: Episode VIII opens!
