Daisy Ridley has no idea why we haven’t figured out who Rey’s parents are in “The Force Awakens”
If Star Wars: The Force Awakens left you wondering about Rey’s backstory, you weren’t alone. Except the actress who plays Rey (Daisy Ridley), doesn’t necessarily understand why fans are still confused about her character’s origins. While promoting the documentary, The Eagle Huntress, for which Ridley provides narration, she talked to Time Out London about why she thinks Star Wars fans should have already figured out what the deal with Rey is.
"I thought a lot was answered in The Force Awakens," Ridley said to Time Out. "Then after the screening I went for a drink with my agent and everyone, and we were chatting away and I realized that, 'Oh, in their minds it's not answered at all!'"
Ridley has to be alluding to who Rey’s parents are since we have been wondering about that since The Force Awakens came out. There are theories that she could be the daughter of Luke Skywalker or Han Solo and Leia. Or the granddaughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi or even the evil Emperor Palpatine. So Ridley thinking that this major secret was already revealed is making us feel a bit clueless! (Okay, we have clues, we just can’t CONFIRM they mean what they mean, okay?)
We can at least take some comfort in knowing that Ridley has insider knowledge that us mere fans don’t have access to and once Star Wars does reveal who Rey’s parents are, we’re sure we’ll realize there were clues all along.
And we WILL definitely find out about her family tree, as Ridley confirmed to Time Out:
“I do find it quite funny that people keep asking about it. Just yesterday a guy asked to take a picture with me, and went ‘Is Luke your Dad?’ And I was like, ‘Chill out, you’ll see!’”
Yet, just because we will find out about Rey’s parentage, don’t expect there won’t be even more questions about the Star Wars universe that come about from it since Ridley also said:
"But with answers come more questions, and there's definitely going to be enough to keep people going for another two years!"
Although we are feeling a bit sheepish that we haven’t figured out definitively who Rey’s parents are, we can’t wait to see how it all plays out once Star Wars: Episode VIII comes out in 2017.
