We still have no ‘Daily Show’ host, but we’re PUMPED for Jason Jones and Samantha Bee’s new job
This month, the Daily Show didn’t just parody the news, it made news. First, Jon Stewart announced he was leaving after 17 years of being on the air. Then, we thought the ever fabulous Jessica Williams, comedian and Daily Show correspondent, would be taking his place. (She’s not and she told us why.)
While we’re still waiting for the good word on the show’s next host, we do have one TDS update. Daily Show correspondents (and happily married couple) Jason Jones and Samantha Bee are launching their own series on TBS. The pair will executive produce and star in an untitled TBS sitcom, set to air in late 2015, about a married couple taking their family on one crazy road trip. Obviously, hilarity will ensue.
According to Deadline, the series, “inspired by [Jones] and Bee’s own experiences with family getaways,” follows a family drive to Florida that’s fraught with disaster (the funny kind). Jones, along with Bee—who will still be featured on TDS in her free time (yay!)—wrote the pilot and play the leaders of this awesomely dysfunctional family.
While we’re psyched for this new series, those TDS fans banking on Bee and Jones replacing Stewart might be a little disappointed about losing Jones to TBS. So Jones took to Twitter to break the news gently: “For 9 & 1/2 years, I have worked at one of the greatest TV shows of all time,” he tweeted. “But…it is time for me to go. That said, I am ecstatic that I’m about to make another great show over @tbsveryfunny.”
Congrats to Jones and Bee. No doubt they’ll crush it with their new gig.
