This dad’s letter to his son’s teacher about a “petty” school rule is going viral, and get ready to cheer

School day woes include everything from bad cafeteria lunches to playground politics, but one of the real bummers is, of course, disciplinary infractions. And one British comedian’s tweet hilariously proves it.

Stand-up comedian Seann Walsh shared a letter on Twitter this past Tuesday, April 17th, that his father wrote to one of his school teachers when he was a kid. And apparently, Seann has the best dad ever.

“Dear Mr. Field,” the letter begins, “Sean tells me that you have confiscated his sweater. He tells me that in class he conforms to the school uniform. He was absent from school on Monday because he had a cold, so travelling on Wednesday without a sweater was not too clever. He told me that the jacket he wears normally is acceptable, but it was stained, therefore he could not wear it. His mother was in Cyprus last week on a break and I, unfortunately, was not able to use the washing machine. Sean was too embarrassed at having a father who cannot use a washing machine to say this. Anyway my point is: Isn’t this just a little bit petty? Life’s hard enough.” false

The letter resonated with so many people that it’s been retweeted over 5,000 times, with some Twitter users even offering stories of their own. false
