Hold the phone: ‘Cruel Intentions’ is going to be a TV show

The late ’90s are coming back in a BIG way because Cruel Intentions is being revived in the form of a brand new… television show!

Just in case you don’t remember the original 1999 film or have no clue what we’re talking about, let’s recap. Cruel Intentions starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon. Gellar and Phillippe played wealthy and kind of evil step-siblings Kathryn Mertieul and Sebastian Valmont. Witherspoon played Annette Hargrove, the headmaster’s very pure, very virginal daughter. Kathryn bets her brother that he can’t deflower Annette before summer break comes to a  close. Madness ensues. Selma Blair gets involved. Everyone’s wealthy. There are a lot of feelings. And SO much sexual tension.

So, how exactly is this movie going to be re-made into a TV show? Well, NBC is creating the series so that it revolves around 16-year-old Bash Casey: Valmont and Hargrove’s son (!!!). After he comes across his late dad’s journal, Bash learns about everything that happened in the original movie. Then, he decides to leave Kansas for San Francisco’s reputable Brighton Preparatory Academy. Just like his parents, he ends up entering a world filled with – you guessed it – cruel intentions.

Since Bash is 16-years-old and the Cruel Intentions movie came out in 1999, this means that Annette must have been pregnant at the end of the movie… Surprise! (Now, let’s hope that Reese Witherspoon makes an appearance on this new show.)

Luckily, the show itself is in good hands. It’s being created by producer Neal H. Moritz (who produced the movie), writer/director Roger Kumble (who directed the movie), Lindsey Rosin (who directed The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions), and Jordan Ross (who transformed the original movie into The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions).

Essentially, this means that these people have the best intentions for this reboot (sorry, we had to).
