YAS QUEENS: The women of Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther are on two new stunning EW covers

Entertainment Weekly dropped its list of 2018 Entertainers of the Year, and among those featured on its four glossy covers are the iconic women of Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther. On the first cover, Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, and Michelle Yeoh stun in vibrant reds. On the other cover, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Letitia Wright slay in regal blues and pinks.

Crazy Rich Asians and Black Panther both served as defining moments in pop culture history. Black Panther, released in February, was the first mainstream comic book movie to feature a black superhero (supported by an almost all black cast and black director). Crazy Rich Asians, released in August, was the first major American studio film to feature an all-Asian cast on the big screen in 25 years. Both films shattered major box office records.

In each feature, the women pay homage to their roles in their respective films. Chan, who played Astrid Leong in Crazy Rich Asians, told EW writer Shirley Li, “I love the fact that all of the women are agents of change in their own lives. They’re not waiting to be rescued by anyone.”

Bassett, who played Ramonda in Black Panther, told EW writer Anthony Breznican of the fictional world of Wakanda in the Marvel film, “It’s a nation that respects and reveres women. They think of us not just as Queen but Queen Mother. Mother is nurturer and the first teacher.”

But wait…there’s more. Rapper Cardi B and American Crime Story star Darren Criss grace EW‘s remaining two covers.

Check out all four of the glossy covers below.

Considering Criss’ meteoric rise to fame since his days on Glee and Cardi B’s chart-topping tracks, it’s no surprise that these mega-talented stars also topped the list. Excuse us while we recover from all of this excellence.
