CoverGirl is partnering with Girls Who Code, and it’s a match made in heaven
Today in feel-good news: CoverGirl has partnered with Girls Who Code, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to close the gender gap in technology. They empower girls and young women by offering computer science programs and a support system of strong women role models. For the CoverGirl Girls Who Code partnership, the makeup brand will be donating $50K to the organization.
They also featured three superstar girls from the program in their newest brand film, called “Code Clean.” In the video, Girls Who Code members Anna, Danille, and Abbey apply CoverGirl’s new shine-reducing, last-all-day Clean Matte Powder, $7, and Clean Matte BB Cream, $8 (because when you’re changing the world, you don’t have time for makeup that doesn’t stay put). In a press release sent to HelloGiggles, the brand stated:
"CoverGirl believes that it’s important to instill confidence in not only the badass young ladies of Girls Who Code, but all young girls, and empower them to be their most authentic selves while also following their dreams and making a difference.'

One of the film’s stars, Abbey, talks about how the nonprofit organization changed her life in a press release, saying:
"My experience withGirlsWhoCodewas probably life-changing. It really motivated me to braver, to be more confident, they taught me how to speak in public. I have so many connections, I literally talk to them 24/7 & I've only known them for 7 weeks. It's an amazing program."
Tech jobs are some of the fastest growing in the country, but only 24% of computer scientists are women. If nothing changes, that number will be down to 22% in 10 years, according to Girls Who Code. That’s why the program is so important.
