CoverGirl just became the biggest makeup brand to officially be cruelty-free

Big news, beauty lovers! CoverGirl announced that it’s officially Leaping Bunny certified, which means all of its products are entirely cruelty-free. This is a major move for a cosmetics company of this size, and CoverGirl knows it. The beloved drugstore brand is “the biggest makeup brand to achieve this certification,” according to a press release sent to HelloGiggles.

Not only will CoverGirl itself be cruelty-free, but its suppliers won’t test its products or ingredients on animals either. And since CoverGirl is a global brand, they revealed they are no longer selling in China, which, by law, requires beauty companies to test on animals. “With our new BFFs at Cruelty Free International, we are working together to advocate for regulatory change to end animal testing globally,” the brand wrote on Instagram.

In a bold move, the drugstore brand also deleted all of its images on Instagram prior to today’s announcement. The only pictures on the social account are of its products with the Leaping Bunny logo. In one of its posts, CoverGirl shared its message behind the cruelty-free move:

At CoverGirl, we believe that you shouldn’t have to choose between the beauty products you [love] and the values you believe in. As the biggest makeup brand to achieve the Leaping Bunny certification, we’re committed to getting affordable, ethical makeup into the hands of anyone who wants it."

With cruelty-free beauty becoming the standard in the industry, it’s great to see such a major brand like CoverGirl joining in on the movement.
