To cover up the dark circles under your eyes, all you need is glitter

Dark circles are the bane of our existence. They’re an instant giveaway that we’re been up all night, and that’s no one’s business but ours. Luckily for us, Cosmopolitan just posted the best ever beauty tutorial to hide your dark circles. It only requires one very easy-to-find beauty product: glitter.

They used star sequin confetti and nail glitter for this tutorial, and we have to say, it is a pretty effective way of hiding any dark circles. If you can’t conceal, distract! We’re into it. Cosmo angled this look as festival-style beauty, but honestly, this could work for a fun girl’s night out look as well.

If covering your dark circles with confetti and glitter is out of the question, there are some more traditional routes you could take. The most obvious one is getting more rest — it’s called beauty sleep for a reason. However, we know just as well as anyone that sometimes a full eight hours just isn’t possible.

One of the easiest ways to hide dark circles, besides glitter of course, is concealer. You’ll have to put some more effort into it than normal though. If you pat on too much or if you’re wearing the wrong formula, it can actually make the darkness more obvious. Opt for a high-coverage concealer (as opposed to an illuminating one —Dermablend is good for this kind of thing; you can pick up a tub at Sephora for $39) with a cream texture instead of a thin, liquid one. If you suffer from very dark circles that are more the product of genetics than lack of sleep, look into a color-correcting concealer .

Color correctors help neutralize the darkness as they put color theory to work for you. There’s a slew of new ones on the market in red, orange, and yellow tones, which are across from the blue, purple, and green shades on the color wheel. That means those colors cancel the color opposite them on the color wheel. Since dark circles tend to have blue or purple under tones, a red or orange corrector will help you conceal them. We like BECCA’S Backlight Targeted Colour Corrector in Papaya. Simply apply it like a normal concealer and buff out very well. Once it dries, go over it with your normal concealer. You’ll look bright-eyed and bushy tailed, even if you don’t feel like it.

If makeup isn’t your thing, you can try applying cooled tea bags to your eye area. The caffeine in the tea will help speed up blood flow to the area. The better your circulation, the better your skin looks. The tea bags will also reduce any puffiness and reduce redness.

Additionally, be sure to drink tons of water, especially if you have been partying at a music festival in the desert. Dehydrated skin looks tighter and thinner, and that makes veins under the skin show up more, making your eye area look kind of bruised — not a good look for anyone!
