Courteney Cox’s new shag haircut is very un-Monica but we love it

When it came to our Friends‘ styles, Phoebe was the one that always gave us quirky, boho looks while Monica echoed her Type-A personality with classic, buttoned-up separates (Rachel, of course, slayed in the effortlessly chic department). But it seems Courteney Cox is taking a few pages from Phoebe’s style book because her new shag haircut is so beautifully bohemian.

Cox has stayed pretty close to her long, dark locks for decades, so this cut is a real-switch up for fall. Jennifer Aniston may have made “The Rachel” haircut iconic, but our new 2019 hair obsession is what we’ll be calling “The Courteney.” It’s much shorter, and she’s added honey-colored highlights and ’70s-era fringe bangs. The cut looks like a totally easy, breezy style for the fall months. (As Monica would say, “I’m breezy!”)

Here’s a picture of Cox’s 2019 shag haircut.

“Somebody had some free time today in London,” the actress captioned her photo. (Cue Joey Tribbiani yelling, “In London?!”)

Colorist Sally Northwood also shared a photo of Cox’s hair switch-up to Instagram, describing the new look and tagging stylist George Northwood.

“Thank you for letting me paint your hair. loving the new shorter choppy locks,” she wrote, hashtagging #monica #balayage #brunettebalayage #courteneycox #hairinspiration.

Celeb friends clearly loved her look, with Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, and Allison Janney sending heart-eyes and fire emojis in the comments section.

Courteney Cox isn’t the only one loving a shag cut moving into fall, either.

Just last week, Hailey Bieber showed off her ’70s styling for the cover of British Vogue.

As afraid as we are of grabbing the scissors for bangs, Cox is giving us the hair inspo we need.
