Mariah Carey, Billie Eilish, and other A-listers will perform a benefit concert for coronavirus relief
As we remain quarantined in our homes for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, celebrities are stepping up to the plate and figuring out ways to give back to those impacted by the spread of the virus. Elton John is hosting a coronavirus benefit concert, and he’s tapped so many of your favorite artists to perform live—from their homes, in keeping with social distancing. And no, this isn’t like the other Instagram Live concerts we’ve been given. This one you can watch on TV.
John is at the helm of “Fox Presents The iHeart Living Room Concert for America.” The hour-long concert special will air on Sunday during the time slot previously occupied by the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The awards show—like so many other music events, including Stagecoach, Glastonbury, Coachella, SXSW, and others—was postponed due to coronavirus.
The full lineup is still in the works but, so far, there’s a seriously impressive collection of artists on board to perform.
Here are just a few names that have already confirmed: Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, the Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Tim McGraw.
And don’t worry: The artists are all practicing social distancing. They’ll be using their personal cell phones, cameras, and audio equipment, per USA Today, to ensure the health and safety of others during the show.
Not only will we get intimate performances from some of music’s top artists, but they’ll be encouraging supporters to donate to two very worthy organizations: Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation. Feeding America works directly with food banks across the country to ensure that those in need receive food during the pandemic. The First Responders Children’s Foundation provides support to first responder families who have been financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The benefit concert will “pay tribute to the frontline health professionals, first responders, and local heroes who are putting their lives in harm’s way to help their neighbors and fight the spread of the virus,” per a representative for Fox.
It will air commercial-free on Fox on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, as well as on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and the iHeartRadio app. So there’s no shortage of ways to tune in. It seems like it’ll be a special night, for sure.
