Cops are going undercover to catch you doing this in your car

Texting while driving causes a lot of accidents and even a lot of fatalities. That’s why cops are taking new measures to try to stop it. They’re even going undercover to stop people from texting and driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2015, almost 3,500 people were killed and 400,000 people were injured due to distracted driving, which includes texting.

Since it can be difficult to prove in court that someone was texting and driving, cops are putting on disguises to catch people in the act.

We suppose it’s not the worst idea if it helps prevent fatal accidents, but you have to admit it’s a bit funny. Right?

In Georgia, cops have put on construction worker uniforms in order to pull over drivers who were texting behind the wheel.

They’ve even panhandled on the sidewalk in order to see whether any passing cars were texting. Similarly, multiple cops in Tennessee have boarded a large bus in order to get a high vantage point, which allows them to better see which drivers are texting.

Two cops reported that within two hours of spying on drivers, they saw all sorts of distracted driving that wasn’t just texting. They saw people reading a newspaper, eating a bagel and cream cheese with a knife, and putting on makeup.

Sounds like we could all do a little better at being safe when we’re behind the wheel.
