Exclusive: How to copy Constance Wu’s “woodland fairy” makeup look at the 2019 Golden Globes
Constance Wu was a true vision at the 2019 Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 6th). The Crazy Rich Asians star, who is nominated in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category, brought her A-game to the red carpet. She wore a custom Vera Wang ballgown that featured an exposed corset and long orange ribbon wrapped around her waist.
While her nude gown most definitely caught our eye, it was Wu’s classic beauty look that stole the show. She kept her makeup to a minimum with a soft, romantic look featuring dewy and radiant skin. Her dreamy braid hairstyle complemented the understated makeup.
“Constance had a vision immediately upon trying on the ethereal Vera Wang gown. She desired a cascading romantic braid with an essence of woodland fairy,” makeup artist Molly Greenwald told HelloGiggles about the star’s makeup inspiration. “I knew I wanted to keep the makeup clean and healthy with glowing skin, fluffy lashes, and a flushed pout.”

“Constance wanted a fairytale, enchanted forest feel for her look,” Marissa Marino, the star’s hairstylist, said in a press statement. Best of all? Marissa used Dove products to get that effortless braid, including the Dry Shampoo and Hairspray.

To get that “woodland fairy” look, Molly used Shiseido makeup and skin care products. She prepped Constance’s skin with the brand’s Refreshing Cleansing Water and followed up with a sheet mask, serum (the star’s fave is the Bio Performance Glow Revival Serum), a face cream, and an eye cream.
Once her skin was prepped to perfection, Molly applied the Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation, and added a touch of concealer to the star’s nose and cheeks. To warm up Constance’s skin and add a hint of color, Molly mixed the brand’s Minimalist Whipped Powder Blush in shades 3 and 4. For her lips, she swiped the Visionary Gel Lipstick in Streaming Mauve.
As for Constance’s romantic eye makeup, she used the champagne-colored Aura Dew in shade 2 on her lids. This multipurpose product can be used on the “cheeks, eyes, and cupid’s bow,” Molly said. Finally, she coated Constance’s lashes with an unreleased mascara: the Controlled Chaos Mascara Ink in Black. “It’s due out in March,” Molly told us.
If you want to recreate the Crazy Rich Asian star’s look for yourself, Molly recommends keeping these two makeup tips in mind. “Be wary of high SPF foundations and over-contouring.” Don’t mind us, we’ll be copying this look all 2019.
