Just some little confidence pick-me-ups to get you through humpday

We’ve all been there: For some reason, this morning, you just are not feeling it. Maybe you’re worn down or maybe it’s been too long since your last vacation, but either way, you could use a little confidence boost to make things a little easier. Fear not: We’ve got you covered. Here are a few little tips to get you back on your feet.

Do one little thing in the morning that has nothing to do with work

Today is the day you accomplish something really tiny and satisfying that’s just for you. Create an awesome playlist for your work commute, finish that crossword puzzle on the subway, make your bed for the first time ever so it’ll be nice and cozy when you come home. Even if you aren’t getting paid to do it, the feeling of any accomplishment comes with a side of confidence.

Remind yourself that you don’t need to be perfect to be amazing

Above everything else, this is probably the most important thing you can learn to help you gain confidence.  You do not need to be Queen Bey to be confident. You can be YOU, and command the respect of others, just by giving yourself the kudos you actually deserve. Make a list of all the accomplishments you’ve achieved in the past week, from finishing that crossword puzzle to making your bed, to crushing it at that meeting you were so nervous about. Rock what you got! Be killer at what you do best! And know that no one is expecting you to be perfect. You’ve got this!

Dole out some unsolicited compliments

I don’t know how or why it works, but for whatever reason encouraging others helps build your own confidence too. Be really specific about what you encourage others with. Tell a co-worker she did a really good job with her presentation or that you appreciate her grabbing coffee for everyone in the morning even when she doesn’t have to. Dole out the compliments.  I really can’t explain it, but if you want some confidence you gotta give some away. Somehow, helping others feel better about themselves makes you feel better, too.

Surround yourself with feel-good reminders

I like to keep a couple of good quotes above my bathroom mirror so that when I wake up in the morning looking like a hot morning mess I can remember that my worth is in more than just my outward appearance. When you put them in places that you come across regularly, they start to get stuck in your head and will eventually be engrained into your mind. Find a quote or two that sticks and will help you feel confident about who you are. Then stick it on your fridge, on your desk at work, or just post it to Instagram and let it be your spirit guide for the day.

Two words: Cheesy fries

This sounds really specific, mostly because it is totally a personal example. Whenever my roommate or I have a really crappy day and need a confidence boost, we treat ourselves to the messiest and biggest portion of cheesy fries available – and there is no judgment. Find yourself a co-worker bestie and plan an indulgent (or super-delicious healthy) lunch that reminds you that break-time is for savoring the good life.
