The Condom Snorting Challenge has people inhaling condoms up their noses, and seriously, just stop it

File this one under things that shouldn’t be real. We’ve seen some pretty ridiculous social media challenges — from the Tide Pod Challenge to the ghost pepper challenge (in which a guy almost died!) — so you’d think people would learn not to try the silly things they read about on the internet. Unfortunately, that’s not true. The latest dangerous idea circulating social media? That would be something called the “Condom Snorting Challenge,” and it’s totally not okay or funny.

Apparently, the Condom Snorting Challenge isn’t an entirely new fad, according to Forbes. It first surfaced on YouTube in 2007, only to be revived first in 2013 and now in 2018. To complete the challenge, you need to unwrap a new condom, inhale it up one nostril, and attempt to pull it out through your mouth. We only wish this were an April Fools’ Day prank.

Seriously, though, we shouldn’t even be having this conversation. Not only are condoms often made of latex (hello, allergies) and covered in lubricant and spermicide, stuffing something like this up your nose could cause some *serious* problems. Not only does it put you at risk of an infection, the condom could get stuck in the process and cause you to choke.

Worth going viral? We think not.

As it turns out, accidental condom inhalation is already a thing (yep), and it’s definitely not something you want to experience.

A 2004 report published in the Indian Journal of Chest Diseases and Allied Sciences detailed how a woman performing oral sex ended up with a condom trapped in her lungs — again, accidentally. The prophylactic “blocked one [of] her airways, and resulted in pneumonia and a collapse of right upper lobe of her lung,” according to the article. Another woman developed appendicitis after a piece of a condom became embedded in her appendix.

And these were accidents, so we can’t even begin to imagine the risks of doing something this stupid on purpose.

Can we officially put an end to the Condom Snorting Challenge — and all ridiculous social media challenges, for that matter — once and for all?

Because this… is not okay. (Warning: The following videos are not for the faint of heart.)

We honestly don’t even have the words to describe *how much* this shouldn’t be happening. false

We shouldn’t have to tell you that the Condom Snorting Challenge is dangerous, ridiculous, and absolutely needs to stop. But once again, please, please don’t try this at home.
