This college is installing “nap pods” and they look like something out of a sci-fi movie

Let’s be honest: Who among us has not fallen asleep at least once in class or in the library studying? College can be tough, and with the rampant amount of studying required for finals and mid-terms, it’s no wonder so many of us crash. Well, one college is trying to help by installing nap pods around campus!

Students at Edinburgh University voted in favor of installing these pods throughout the campus. While the nap pods do look like they are out of a sci-fi film, we bet all students appreciate the effort to help with mental and physical health. After all, naps are the best.

So, let’s get a look at these nap pods:

Yes. They definitely have… a look. But they also seem to offer tons of sleep potential, which is really what’s most important, right?

According to Sky News, Edinburgh University’s think tank research director Priyanka Radhakrishnan has a perfectly logical explanation behind the pods.

She says, "The idea behind it is that sleep deprivation is one of the main causes of mental health problems. This is an initiative to tackle that problem, promoting the idea of napping and having students take around 40-minute breaks throughout the day to make sure their mental and physical wellbeing is on top point."

And, seriously, who doesn’t love a good nap?

The pods are engineered with a specially designed aircraft-style bed.

Nappers can “screen out” surrounding sound by “playing relaxing music through a large-scale helmet and rotating visor.” Again, very sci-fi… but also very, very cool. Not to mention, useful!

Due to the high demand of the nap pods, nappers can only “relax” in them for about twenty minutes. If you want a longer nap, you’ll have to go elsewhere (preferably home, to a nice relaxing bed). But for a twenty-minute power nap, these pods are perfect!
