Colin Jost and Michael Che are hosting the 2018 Emmys, but THEY’LL NEVER BE TINA AND AMY

It’s just been announced today, April 26th, that SNL’s “Weekend Update” duo Colin Jost and Michael Che will be hosting the 2018 Emmys. Last year, Stephen Colbert hosted the show, and the year before that, the honor went to Jimmy Kimmel.

It’s been a big year for both Jost and Che, but an exceptionally special month for Jost, who — after about a year of dating — made his red-carpet debut with girlfriend Scarlett Johansson. Jost has been writing for Saturday Night Live since 2005 and took the desk at Update in 2014. Che joined the same year and made history as the first African-American co-anchor on the show ever (about time!). Both are exceptionally hilarious and have awesome chemistry‚ which is likely a huge part of why they were selected to host the big event.

And as you’ll undoubtedly recall, Che and Jost aren’t the first “Weekend Update” pair to go to the hosting big times. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes in both 2013 and 2014. So needless to say, Jost and Che better bring their A-game.

"NBC is thrilled to be the home of this year’s Emmy Awards and with Colin and Michael in the driver’s seat as hosts, along with surprise appearances by other cast members of Saturday Night Live," NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in an April 26th statement posted to Deadline. "I think we are in for one of the funniest awards shows in a long time."

The pair, who are also now co-head writers on the show, have three more episodes of Saturday Night Live this season before they can prep for the Emmys, which is currently set to air on September 17th.

And speaking of Tina Fey and must-see events, she’ll be hosting the season finale on May 19th, with musical guest Nicki Minaj. Perhaps she can slip them some pro-tips while she’s there.
