Cole Sprouse Just Broke His Silence on His Breakup With Lili Reinhart
"I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward."
Back in March, reports started popping up that Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse had broken up, and while both Riverdale actors had made allusions to the split, Sprouse has now confirmed the news. In an Instagram post today, August 19th, Sprouse said that he and Reinhart separated this winter and fully ended their relationship two months later. The IRL Bughead is no more, but according to his post, there’s still a lot of support between them.
“Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March,” Sprouse wrote the caption of a picture of what appears to be Reinhart walking through the woods. (He’s known as an avid photographer.) He went on to talk about his “incredible” experience in a relationship with his Riverdale co-star.
“What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love,” Sprouse wrote. “I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward.”
And in case you were hoping for the juicy details, Sprouse isn’t spilling—nor does he have to. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter, he wrote.
It’s clear the real-life Jughead has a lot of love and support for Reinhart. Before ending his Instagram caption, he wrote, “Also her movie comes out soon! I’m sure she’s just as incredible in it as everything else she does. Thanks guys ❤️”
He’s referring to Chemical Hearts, the YA movie adaptation that the Riverdale actress is starring in and executive producing. It drops this week, August 21st, on Amazon Prime.
Sprouse’s post comes just a day after Reinhart had to step in to clarify some of her interview quotes that were taken out of context to refer to her breakup with Sprouse.
“Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a ‘breakup.’ They are about the depression I’ve felt over these last few months. Tired of people taking my words out of context and piecing together their own story for clickbait,” she tweeted, referring to her interview with Refinery29 that discussed her experience with depression.
“I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression,” she wrote in a second tweet.
It seems the exes are on the same page about anyone speculating about their relationship status or the reasons they broke up. Which could come as no surprise to those who remember their infamous clap back to breakup rumors last summer. It’s no one’s business, and they don’t plan to speak any further about it.
