Coachella in NYC? There might be a massive music festival in the making

East coasters, there might be a music festival coming to you next summer. AEG Live, the folks responsible for promoting massive fests like Coachella, Firefly, and Hangout Festival, are exploring the possibility of bringing a music festival to Queens, NY.

The festival, which has been tentatively named Panorama, would take place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in June 2016, according to the NY Daily News. The plan is to have Panorama take place two weeks after the Governor’s Ball, which runs the weekend of June 4-6 on Randall’s Island.

Unfortunately, the folks in charge of the Governor’s Ball are none too pleased with this prospect, and understandably so. “The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy,” Tom Russell, of Founders Entertainment, told the Daily News.

Like Coachella, Governor’s Ball is known for it’s massive headliners (i.e. 2015’s Lana Del Rey, Kanye West, the Black Keys) and for giving a larger platform to developing artists. That said, if Panorama plans on marketing itself as an “east coast Coachella,” it may certainly prove to be detrimental to the Governor’s Ball.

For now, we’re just gonna dream of a utopian world where both parties can come to a reasonable agreement.
