J.J. Abrams is making a third “Cloverfield” movie, and we are READY

Exceedingly patient Cloverfield fans, J.J. Abrams is making a third Cloverfield movie. So, you know, you’re going to want to lean in a little closer.

As you might have assumed — upon seeing the sequel to the OG Cloverfield10 Cloverfield Lane, which had a hopeful, yet still terrifying open ending — there was still more story left to tell. And, according to The Wrap, fans’ “speculations” about Abrams’ film God Particlewere right on target. Even better news? It sounds nothing short of totally awesome.

God Particle is about is about “a team of astronauts who make a ‘shocking discovery’ and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality.”

Which, varies a lot from the plot of a-few-people-being-stuck-in-a-tense-yet-weirdly-cozy-post-apocalyptic-underground-shelter. That said, the close proximity scenario remains an interesting connecting thread. And, as the site points out, “Abrams connects his shared universe in much less visible ways,” so this connection seems like kind of a big deal.

The site reports that God Particle will be out on February 24, 2017. But, don’t put the confetti and champagne away just yet. The Wrap’s insider details that Abrams and Paramount Pictures are, “developing more movies for the shared universe…Both parties hope to release a new film in the shared Cloverfield [universe] each year.” Which means that the Cloverfield’s dominion over fans’ lives and the film industry, has only just started.
