Clip-on man buns are here and the Internet is not pleased
Anyone who’s grown out a pixie cut knows: Growing out your hair sucks. It takes so much time and energy and patience. Short hair goes through more awkward stages than a preteen, sneaking into mullet-mode whenever it’s left alone for too long. It’s understandable that people choose to take a short cut to their Rapunzel hair goals. Which might be the reasoning behind a recent Groupon for “Clip In Man Buns.”
Whether you like them or not, man buns have been on people’s minds (literally) for over a year now, gracing the noggins of famous dudes like Leonardo DiCaprio, Harry Styles, and Jake Gyllenhaal. Now, thanks to this online coupon, which cuts the price down from $65.34 to $9.99, any shopper can clip a wad of fake hair to their head and pretend they are a member of the man bun club.*
To be honest, it’s difficult to tell whether this Groupon is for real or not. Though the page says that over 5,000 Clip In Man Buns have been purchased, the product description is almost too hilarious:
The directions for attaching the Clip In Man Bun recommends slicking your hair back, “in a similar motion to lacquering a reclaimed-wood coffee table,” and forgoing bobby pins because they, “are too mainstream, use antique paper clips instead.”
Um, okay.
*Not a real club.
As word of the Clip In Man Bun special got around this morning, some people weren’t sure how to react:
In fact, there were people who got pretty upset:
Like, really really upset:
Back in April, Asos posted a similar ad for “Clip-On Man Buns,” but they turned out to be an April Fool’s joke. Could this Groupon be an 11/11 joke? Is that a thing now? In case you are thinking of buying a Clip In Man Bun for you or a loved one, consider how that little nest of hair is going to balance on your head. You might need a lot of antique paper clips to keep that puppy attached and looking, well, real. For reference, here is the blond version of the Clip In Man Bun.
And here is an actual, home grown man bun.
If you can’t tell the difference, then, by all means, buy as many fake man buns as you please. BONUS: You could even get two and use them as Princess Leia buns!
