Claire Danes just said the thing we all needed to hear about body image

Plenty of us have loved Claire Danes since she was Angela Chase (oh, and anyone else remember that amazing “Romeo + Juliet” with baby Leo DiCaprio?), but now she’s given us yet another reason to support our girl-crush.

Claire spoke to Allure recently about the issue of body shaming in the media and the battle for women — even incredibly successful, accomplished, famous women — to just try to “take up the right amount of space.”

The woman with what might be the world’s most famous cry face (it even has its own Tumblr!) opened up about her own “vanity” and what matters to her when she’s acting (hint: it isn’t how her face looks).

She added, “I’m attractive enough. I can do the work I want to do. I’ve found this wonderful man who wants to make out with me. I’m good.”

This isn’t the first time the Homeland star has taken on the issue of body image and shaming. Recently, she told People magazine that she feels like “my body is monitored and commented on infinitely more than my male counterpart.”

She recalled being on the red carpet at the Emmys a few years ago with her friend Lena Dunham, and how both of them had been “singled out and criticized for having different body types – I was too skinny and she was too big.”

Claire is the latest in a growing group of actresses and performers who are speaking out on inequality and double standards in Hollywood and the media, joining Jennifer Lawrence, Ellie Goulding and, of course, comedy goddess Amy Schumer, to name just a few. Though we’re still a long way from solving any of these issues, it’s encouraging to see that so many more famous women are willing to raise their voices about them — and that the rest of us are actually listening.
