Here are some new CHVRCHES songs to listen to while you wait for their next album
Are you a CHVRCHES fan? Well, you should be. The Scottish electronica band stunned listeners with debut track “Lies” back in 2013, and their debut album The Bones of What You Believe was our synthy soundtrack for months. After releasing some killer covers and additions to new Drive and The Hunger Games soundtracks, the three-piece is back with new tunes, as well as info about their sophomore album, and let’s just say that they’re clearly not tinkering with their winning formula.
First up, let’s talk album: It’s called Every Open Eye, and features some very New Order-inspired artwork, which they debuted on Instagram. It’s a departure from the super-geometric art which dominated their first album’s cycle, but stunning nonetheless.
Out of the 11 tracks listed for Every Open Eye, only one has been formally released via Soundcloud and a lyric video: “Leave a Trace,” a perfect mix of sparkling hope and poignancy, is the first song to drop, but it’s not the only one that’s been debuted. Say what?
During RBC Ottawa Bluesfest (which goes on for 11 days, aka other festivals step your game up), the band dropped several live versions of EOE tracks “Make Them Gold” and “Clearest Blue.” SPIN chronicled all three videos on their site, but for posterity and comparison, we’re including the live version of “Leave A Trace” below:
