Here’s why this dude ran all over Tokyo dressed as a Christmas tree

Joseph Tame, a British expatriate who lives in Tokyo, has been spending the holiday season dressing up as a Christmas tree, running through the parts of Tokyo that he believes are most in need of some Xmas awesomeness.

“There are many areas of the city that are beautifully illuminated with Christmas decorations, but there are also areas where there are not, so I thought wouldn’t it be great to take the fun and wonder of these illuminations into those areas and spread the Christmas cheer,” Tame told CNN, adding  “I like to make people laugh and smile where they don’t expect it.”

This Xmas tree costume is no joke. It’s made up of two fake Christmas trees, requires 99 batteries and 30 meters of wiring, and took Joseph a whopping 2 months to make.

For Joseph, the costume isn’t just about spreading holiday cheer but also about bringing people together.

“One of the main things is to break the social barriers. Tokyo is a great city but people keep to themselves. It brings people to get together. On the train, it’s just wonderful. Everybody is just transfixed.”

We love this silly and original way of spreading holiday cheer.  Christmas tree costumes for everyone!
