The Friendship Between Christina Applegate and Selma Blair Is Giving Us All the Feels
"She's nailing just being who she is with this MS," Blair says of her longtime bestie.
Selma Blair and Christina Applegate are two peas in a pod. The longtime friends have been each other’s support system since their costar days on The Sweetest Thing in 2002 to now both living with multiple sclerosis (MS), which they were diagnosed with three years apart.
In October 2018, Blair shared with fans that she had been diagnosed with the disorder. Applegate learned of her diagnosis in August 2021.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Blair opened up about what her friendship with the Dead to Me actress means to her and how amazing it’s been to “witness the greats” in Applegate’s life.
“Oh gosh, I’ve known Christina for so many years, we’re really close, and I’m just a fan of hers,” Blair said. “She is an iconic California girl actress of my generation, and she is it. There has not been one thing that she’s done that I haven’t been like, ‘Nailed it,’ and she’s nailing just being who she is with this MS.”

Applegate recently received her Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Blair is more than happy that she was able to be there for her friend during the momentous milestone.
“I just wanna witness the greats in my friends’ lives, like just quietly back there, and so to know that I was there for something that we dream about when we’re little,” Blair said.
Following Applegate’s MS diagnosis in August 2021, Blair said her friend continues to check in on her at a moment’s notice.
“Christina still supports me. She’s just a strong one,” the Cruel Intentions star said. “She really is. She’s such a nurturer.
“If you need something she’s at your house,” Blair continued. “There have been things that I had been unglued, and she’s like, ‘I’m outside. Answer the door.’ She’s just amazing and strong and fun.”
And Blair returns the favor whenever she can. The actress said when it comes to “things that help me get around” she’s happy to send advice and cane recommendations Applegate’s way.
Between Dead to Me season three and recent press events, Blair noted that Applegate “has a lot on her plate.” However, “she’s as brilliant and beautiful as ever.”
