Christina Aguilera is totally *stripped* in her “Paper” magazine cover, and Twitter is loving her transformed look
In her nearly two decades in the spotlight, we’ve come to know many different versions of Christina Aguilera. There was her early “pop princess” era, followed by “Drrty”-era Christina, which consisted of two-toned hair, the triangle bikini top, and those chaps. Then there was Back to Basics Christina, which saw her channel old Hollywood, Bionic Christina, which took a futuristic approach to her old Hollywood look, and The Voice era Christina, which saw her mentor a new generation of singing sensations.
While Aguilera’s style has continually evolved, her platinum locks, bold lip, and heavy black eyeliner have served as constants. Her look can generally be summed up with one word: bold. But for her cover of Paper Magazine, the “Fighter” singer shocked the internet by opting for a makeup-free look.
Aguilera has never been one to shy away from going there with makeup — pulling out all the stops to channel Farrah Moan during her appearance as guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race just last week — which is why it was so surprising for many to see her look so toned down on the cover of Paper.
While Aguilera told the magazine that embracing a natural look doesn’t mean she’s permanently toning things down – “I’m a girl that likes a beat face, let’s not get it twisted,” she said — Aguilera did reveal that it was “liberating” to appear makeup free.
"I've always been someone that obviously loves to experiment, loves theatrics, loves to create a storyline and play a character in a video or through stage," she said. "I'm a performer, that's who I am by nature. But I'm at the place, even musically, where it's a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty."
Of course, Aguilera isn’t the only one feeling this no makeup look. Twitter is absolutely here for “stripped” down Christina — with many feeling this is just the beginning of a new era for the pop star.
