Christina Aguilera says she fought to try to get two female coaches on “The Voice”
While we loved her as a judge, Christina Aguilera recently said that she has no plans to appear on The Voice again, saying that she’s not interested in being involved in something so commercially-motivated at this point in her career. In discussing the show, the singer also noted that she had continually fought to have two female judges on the panel (when the show started, she was the only one).
In an interview with W magazine, she said, “I fought for a long time to get two females in the chairs. And, for a long time, I was just told it wasn’t the demographic,” Aguilera said. “But just know that I was a fighter behind the scenes.” (The show didn’t have two female judges on the panel until its 11th season, fyi, when Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys appeared).
Aguilera also addressed the rumors that her departure had something to do with Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s romance.
"It never had anything to do with any one person at all," Aguilera confirmed. "And, I actually think it's really cute Blake and Gwen found love in that chaotic environment."
For Season 15, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson will both be coaches, competing against Levine and Shelton — so it definitely seems there was little actual weight to the “demo” argument Aguilera was up against.
Even though she’s no longer coaching on television, Christina Aguilera has so much ahead of her. She’s currently gearing up to release Liberation, her first new album in six years (and she just dropped a single from it called “Fall in Line,” featuring Demi Lovato). The album drops on June 15th, and we can’t wait.
