This guy spent $1,600 to transform himself into a merman, and the pics are everything

Let’s be honest: We’ve definitely dreamed about being a mermaid before — even just as a day job. After all, like our favorite crustacean Sebastian says, the seaweed is always greener in somebody else’s lake. Well, one man in Florida, Christian Riel, decided to take matters into his own hands and make himself a merman tail — and when you see it, you’ll want one, too.

Riel, a 24-year-old college student, fell in love with the ocean thanks to his favorite childhood movieThe Little Mermaid. And when he moved to the Sunshine State, he found himself spending more and more time by the water.

"I’ve lived in Florida for two years and drove out to the ocean whenever I had the time," he told the website Media Drum World. "I just love sitting by the shore and swimming in the salty sea water."

After stumbling across merpeople pages on Instagram, Riel decided to take the plunge and purchase his own merman tale. According to the U.K.’s Daily Star, he put in an order with “mertailor” Eric Ducharme in September 2017. Riel told the Star that to complete the transformation, he visited Ducharme’s showroom in Crystal River, Florida, where he was measured and submitted the order. All in all, becoming a merman cost Riel about $1,600.

But the dazzling gold merman tail looks worth it.

Since going full merman, Riel often wears his tail to the beach or his private swimming pool — and sometimes even in the bath.

Jealous of Riel’s life aquatic but don’t have the money to shell out for a tail of your own? Luckily, with everything from mermaid-themed beach accessories to clam lamps worthy of Ariel herself, the internet is full of ways to add a little undersea magic to your life. After all, even though being a merperson seems fun, life on land doesn’t have to be boring.
