Chrissy Teigen is as confused as you are about the prominent veins on her post-baby boobs

Leave it to Chrissy Teigen to keep it real about motherhood. Now that her second kid, Miles, is here, she’s been thrown back into the infant life, and she recently shed light one of the under-discussed realities of breastfeeding: prominent veins in your boobs. It’s one of those weird, surprising things that can happen to new moms after they give birth, and there’s actually a pretty logical reason why these veins appear.

Teigen posted a video on Sunday, June 10th showing off her postpartum breasts and wondering WTF was up with all those veins. “Please look at my veins going to my milky boobs,” she said with a laugh. “What is this?”

It makes sense that a change in her boobs would be totally confusing, and her veins are super out there. So why does this happen? It all has to do with increased blood flow to your breasts, thanks to milk production.

Women’s health expert Dr. Jennifer Wider explained to HelloGiggles that the change in Teigen’s vein appearance is very common — and definitely not a cause for concern for new mothers.

"This is completely normal and may be more prominent in women who are breastfeeding," she told us. "During pregnancy, there is increased blood flow to the breasts that is designed to feed the baby with breast milk. The increase in blood flow causes the veins to become enlarged and more visible, especially during breastfeeding."

Well, that makes sense. More blood would be flowing to the area because your breasts are working harder to feed your kiddo, so it seems this is just another thing to add to the list of things that happen to your body after you have a baby. Bodies are so cool! And weird. But mostly cool.

Honestly, we’re just glad Teigen brought it up because now more moms will know that this is something that can happen to them and that it’s normal. The more you know!
