Chrissy Teigen sings and raps with John Legend in a mini-musical for Target and we can’t stop watching
Give us one more reason to love Chrissy Teigen. Okay, here’s one. In The Toycracker, a mini-musical by Target, Chrissy Teigen plays the cutest toy soldier nutcracker we’ve ever seen.
Target aired its holiday event The Toycracker during ABC’s broadcast of Frozen on Monday night. Alongside iconic toys like Elmo, Batman, Barbie and the Trolls, Teigen’s Nutcracker belts out some showstoppers and breaks into a rap battle. Broadway star Isabella Russo plays Clara, and John Legend is the Rat King.
“When toys make noise, Rat King breaks toys, so we know we gotta keep it down, we gotta keep it down,” the toys sing, as the Rat King makes an epic entrance.
“Is it Christmas already?” the Rat King asks, and Ken turns to Siri.
“Hey, Siri, when is Christmas?” Ken Doll whispers into his iPhone.
“You wanna celebrate? You gotta battle me, first,” the Rat King warns of the toys too eager to have fun.
“Somebody drop a beat,” he demands.
He launches into a rat-a-tat rap, and then the Nutcracker jumps in but loses when she can’t think of a word to rhyme with purple. But then Clara steps in and saves the day:
“We want a very merry Christmas, so Feliz Navidad.”
Benj Pasek wrote the original music, and Ariel Rechtshaid produced. The lyrics are hilarious, and the staging is so great.
We think that Target’s advertising department ought to win some sort of award for this.
